Centre Names Vonderbrink to Tennis, Basketball Positions
DANVILLE, KY-Centre College Acting Athletics Director Joe McDaniel announced Monday that Matt Vonderbrink, a 1980 Centre graduate and currently the school's head men's tennis coach, will take over the women's tennis program and serve as assistant men's basketball coach, beginning next fall.
Vonderbrink, 41, previously served as an assistant basketball coach at Centre and was the head coach at both Lynchburg College and Danville High School. He was Centre's tennis coach from 1981-86 and again for the last three seasons. He also coached tennis at both Lynchburg and Danville.
"We're very excited about Matt joining our staff again on a full-time basis," said McDaniel. "He's a member of the Centre family and an experienced and versatile coach and teacher. We're also happy to provide a full-time coach for our women's tennis team."
Vonderbrink, who holds a master's degree from the University of Kentucky, played on Centre's first NCAA Division III Final Four basketball team in 1979, averaging 9.5 points and 4.3 assists per game as the Colonels went 25-5. He scored 810 points and added 363 assists during his career. His assist total is sixth on Centre's all-time list. He will serve as assistant coach for another Centre alum, Greg Mason, on the basketball staff. Mason was named head basketball coach earlier this month.
A native of Cincinnati, Vonderbrink and wife Mary Ann live in Danville
and have three children: Monica, 13, Sarah, 10, and Dana, 8.
