Jason Atwell chooses Centre College DANVILLE, KY - Jason Atwell, winner of the prestigious Ted Sanford Award, has chosen Centre College to pursue his basketball talents. Atwell led Mercer County to its first ever state tournament appearance last spring averaging 16 points a game, 4 assists, and 5 rebounds. He averaged 23 points a game in 12th Region play and made the All-Region team. About his college choice, Atwell says, "I wanted to play close to home so my mom and dad would have an opportunity to watch me play." His high school coach, Stacey Hall, is a Centre graduate and is extremely complimentary of Atwell. "Jason is such a great kid. In fact, as a coach, you would love to coach a team with five Jason Atwells." Centre coach Greg Mason looks forward to having Jason on the squad. "Jason had a senior season that most of us only dream about. For us, he's a 6-4 shooter who understands how to get open in an up-tempo style. We're obviously pleased that Jason has decided to attend Centre and we look forward to his contributions both on and off the court." The Colonels are coming off a 14-11 season and graduated only one starter. Communications Office Sports Information: Ed Rall Public information coordinator: Patsi Barnes Trollinger |
