Bauer to retire from Centre College

DANVILLE, KY - Dick Bauer, a member of the senior administrative staff at Centre College since 1985, will retire from the college at the end of June. Bauer originally joined the college as vice president for business and finance, and in 1997 he was named vice president for finance and treasurer of the college.

During Bauer's tenure, Centre has dramatically increased the value of its endowment, from $29 million in 1985 to a recent all-time high of $162 million. Bauer also gave leadership to a decade of improvements to the college buildings and grounds. From 1985 to 1994, the college made a series of more than two dozen property acquisitions that resulted in facilities including the current student center, admissions office, student life office and visual arts center.

Bauer is an Ohio native who served as controller at Denison University before joining the Centre staff. He also was a finance executive with Bancohio Corporation and American Diversified Holding Co., Inc. He was certified as a public accountant in Ohio and held an accounting position with Ernst and Whinney.

Bauer is a graduate of Iowa State University and a veteran of service in the U.S. Air Force. He and his wife, Mari»`0»1 d-and-breakføin Harrodsburg.

Centre will conduct a national search to fill the position vacated by Bauer's retirement.
