Centre recital to feature award-winning composition

DANVILLE, KY - Larry Bitensky, assistant professor of music at Centre College, will give a piano recital Saturday, April 15, featuring works by Bartok, Chopin and Haydn. The concert highlight will be the Danville ppremiere of Bitensky's "Mishb'rey yam" (Breakers of the Sea), a song cycle for voice and piano on texts by Yahudah Halevi.

The work was commissioned by the Kentucky Music Teachers Association and earned Bitensky an award from the Music Teachers National Association as distinguished composer of the year.

Bitensky's recital will begin at 8 p.m. in the Audrey Gillespie Recital Hall in the Norton Center for the Arts (room 114 in the building's Grant Hall section). Admission is free.

Bitensky is a graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music, where he completed a bachelor's degree in piano performance. He holds a master's degree in composition from Ithaca College and a doctorate in music composition from Cornell University.
