Centre College newspaper wins state awards

DANVILLE, KY - The Centre College newspaper, the Cento, won eight awards in competition at the recent Kentucky Intercollegiate Press Association Conference in Bowling Green.

The paper received first-place awards for sports news story, sports photo and photo essay. The sports news story was written by Daron Mills, a Centre junior from Louisville; the sports photo was by Corey Dugan, a junior from Maysville; and the photo essay was developed as a collaborative effort of Dugan, Jacquie Sale and Ryan Bowe. Sale is a senior from Lexington, and Bowe is a sophomore from Nicholasville.

The paper received a second place award for front page layout, a third place award for overall layout, and honorable mention awards for news story (written by Adriana Melnyk), feature layout (Melnyk) and sports layout (Sale). Melnyk is a sophomore from Indianapolis.

Melnyk and Bowe serve jointly as editors-in-chief of the paper, which is published bi weekly on campus.
