Centre appoints chief financial officer

DANVILLE, KY - John E. Cuny, a veteran college and university financial officer, has been named vice president for finance and treasurer at Centre College. His appointment is effective Sept. 18.

Currently vice president of Lyon College in Arkansas, Cuny served for 11 years as associate treasurer and controller of Washington and Lee University in Virginia. He has a total of 22 years experience in higher education and also held financial management posts in private industry.

Cuny is a graduate of Loyola University in New Orleans and worked for Continental Can Company at locations in Louisiana and Alabama. He subsequently worked for Continental Drilling Company in California before taking his first higher education post as controller at Fuller Theological Seminary.

In his current position at Lyon, Cuny has contributed to a five-year strategic plan as well as day-to-day operations in finance, investments, buildings and grounds, personnel and insurance. While at Washington and Lee, he dealt with areas including the computerized accounting system, auxiliary operations and long-term planning for plant improvement projects.

Cuny held civic leadership posts including president of the Lexington (Va.)-Rockbridge Chamber of Commerce and has been active in professional organizations associated with college and university business officers.
