College establishes host committee for debate
DANVILLE, KY- Centre College President John Roush has established a debate host committee of 34 local and state leaders who will help the college prepare for the vice presidential debate scheduled for Oct. 5 on the campus.
Roush chairs the committee, which includes representatives from the Governor's cabinet and the state tourism office, as well as local and regional elected officials. The committee held its first meeting March 14 on campus in the college's Norton Center for the Arts, where the debate will take place.
During that meeting, college staff members reported on the status of debate preparations including a recent consultation between the college and the Commission on Presidential Debates.
The Centre host committee will meet periodically to share information and coordinate the involvement of agencies at the local and state level. Among the committee members are Crit Luallen, a Centre graduate who serves as Gov. Paul Patton's Cabinet Secretary; Alex Stevens, major of Danville; and Harvey Corson, superintendent of the Kentucky School for the Deaf.
Bob Stewart, a Centre graduate who is Kentucky's Commissioner of Travel Development, also is on the committee, along with executives and volunteers from organizations such as the Danville-Boyle County Chamber of Commerce and the Heart of Danville.
Roush also has established a debate steering committee, which brings together college staff members with specific work assignments related to the debate. Richard Trollinger, vice president for college relations, and Clarence Wyatt, special assistant to the president, co-chair the steering committee.
