Centre College honors seven employees DANVILLE, KY-Centre College honored seven employees with service awards during the school's annual employee appreciation dinner Tuesday, May 23. They are Leo Henrich, Phillip Kirby, Brenda Bryant, Sonny Evans and Tim Culhan, all of Danville; Crystal Wesley of Stanford; and Randy Maddox of Junction City. In addition, the college recognized employees who are retiring this year and individuals who have reached milestones of service to the college, ranging from 35 years to five years. Maddox, Henrich and Kirby received Horky Service Awards, which were created by a bequest from John and Lorette Horky of Danville to honor unique and exemplary service to Centre. Bryant, Wesley and Evans were honored with Centre Service Awards, which recognize persons who have given unselfish service to the college community. Culhan received the Presidential Award for Excellence, honoring exceptional work during the past year. Maddox, who graduated from Boyle County High School, is an 11-year employee on the physical plant staff who has excelled in repair and improvement projects, as well as electrical systems. Henrich, a graduate of Casey County High School, is a five-year employee on the physical plant staff who is head painter. Kirby, a graduate of Lafayette High School, joined the college in 1996 and is general services leader on the physical plant staff. Bryant is the finance office secretary and purchasing assistant; she has worked at the college since 1991 and is a graduate of North Harrison High School in Ramsey, Ind. Wesley, who graduated from Lincoln County High School, serves as acquisitions clerk in the college library and has been a college employee for 20 years. Evans, who has been the Centre athletics facilities manager since 1991, is a Danville High School graduate and holds an associate's degree from Lindsey Wilson College. Culhan is a 22-year veteran of the college who serves as registrar. He graduated from Centre in 1978 and originally joined the college staff as a graduate fellow. He was named registrar in 1983. Culhan is active in community theater productions. The college recognized four persons who are retiring this year: Dick Bauer, finance office, Judy Nystrom, library, Steve Benedict, physical plant, Patsy McAfee, faculty secretary; and Kitty Baird, athletics office. Persons reaching milestones of service included: 35 years - Dora Yocum; 30 years - Bill Garriott and Mike Hamm; 20 years - Brian Cooney, Penny Glass, Tom McCullough, Joe McDaniel, Mike Norris, Conrad Shiba, Viola Singleton, Don Taylor, Marshall Wilt and Ann Young; 15 years - Larry Baker, Dick Bauer, Judy Bowell, Bessie Mae Houston, Dotti Rinehart and John Wilson; 10 years - Brenda Bowen, Beau Weston, John Ward, Barbara Underhill and Phil Lockett; and five years - Danny Cross Jr., Leo Henrich, Dave Frey, Flora Mae Grubbs, Rick Bradshaw, Bob Nesmith, Chalene Helmuth, Walter Gooch, Roy Edmiston and Jennifer Stephens.
