Centre Places Eight on All-SCAC Football
Team RELEASED: Nov. 21, 2000 DANVILLE, KY- Centre College placed eight players on the All-Southern Collegiate Athletics Conference football team in a vote of league coaches released Monday. Senior guard Charlie Faircloth of Covington earned first-team honors on offense. Faircloth is joined on the first team by senior defensive tackle Joey Klausing of Louisville, who recorded eight sacks (second best in the conference) and junior corner Eric Heyman, also of Louisville, who finished with 63 tackles and 2 interceptions. Heyman has been a first-team player three consecutive years. Two more defensive players made the second team, cornerback Brian Britt, a junior from Bowling Green, and junior linebacker Carter Conley of Paris. Britt was also selected as the Special Teams Player-of-the-Year for the second consecutive season. Conley led the team in tackles with 81. Wide receivers Joe Guthrie and Jeremy Gomez, both juniors, were second-team picks with 41 and 45 catches respectively. Guthrie is a native of Campbellsburg, while Gomez resides in Bowling Green. Senior punter Rocky Ryser of East Bernstadt was also a second-team selection. Three Centre seniors earned honorable mention distinction. They are defensive lineman Toby Hlad of Ft. Thomas, offensive lineman Brian Sawyers of Ross, Ohio, and safety David Line of Lexington. DePauw University's Jason Lee was named SCAC Offensive Player of the Year, and Trinity University's John-Paul Visosky took similar honors for defensive players. - end -
