DANVILLE, KY -- Centre College has received favorable reviews in two recently published college guides. The Fiske Guide to Colleges 2001, compiled annually by former New York Times education editor Ted Fiske, lauds Centre as an academically strong college and a best buy. Centre also appears in the Princeton Review 2001, which reports its selections of the nation's top 300 colleges. The Fiske Guide, published by Random House, features descriptions of college campuses, excerpted comments from students and faculty, and statistics on enrollment, academic profile and student retention. This year's section refers to Centre as "the best of its breed in the Bluegrass state." Fiske goes on to review Centre's campus facilities, options for study abroad and unique offerings such as arts programming at the Norton Center for the Arts. The Princeton Review claims to offer a student-oriented view of U.S. colleges and universities, including comments about social life, academic expectations and facilities. In overall academic rating, Centre led all Kentucky institutions. The Fiske Guide and the Princeton Review are available at most bookstores. - end -
