Centre students host Gender Equality Week DANVILLE, KY - Centre College students will host Gender Equality Week at the college, April 10-15, featuring guest speakers and a performance to explore gender issues in society. Marcia Guenzler-Stevens, a scholar from the University of Maryland, will kick off the week with a presentation Monday, April 10. Her remarks will begin at 8 p.m. in the Weisiger Theatre in the Norton Center for the Arts. The program will involve a skit performed by male and female students about gender perceptions on campus, followed by Guenzler-Stevens' discussion of important issues in gender relations. On Tuesday, April 11, Centre Professor Steve Beaudoin will lead a lunchtime discussion about the ways biological differences have influenced gender understanding. His remarks will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the Nichols Dining Room in the Cowan Dining Commons on campus. The third and final program in the series, set for Wednesday, April 12, will feature activist and actress Yolantha Harrison-Pace presenting her original work, "Wing-Plucked Butterfly - A Victim Speaks." Harrison-Pace will perform at 7 p.m. in the Combs Student Center. Her performance will feature excerpts from the journal she kept during the years she was abused by her spouse, along with newer material in which she challenges the legislative system to hold perpetrators accountable. Gender Equality Week is sponsored by the Centre Women's Forum. The programs are open to the public at no cost. - end -
