Centre students tour Greece to study art, architecture and history

DANVILLE, KY - Seventeen Centre College students recently completed a travel-study program in Greece under the direction of Classics Professor Jim Morrison. They visited sites of architectural and historical significance, including the Oracle at Delphi, Olympia, the Acropolis and the Parthenon.

Morrison arranged for the students to visit a folklore museum on the island of Crete as well as the National Archaeological Museum of Greece in Athens. He held classroom sessions on the Centre campus before and after the trip to give the students a broad background in the history and culture of the area.

The trip was one of five travel-study options offered to Centre students during the winter short term. Other professors led students to Italy, Japan, Vietnam and San Salvador Island. Three other groups of students are spending the combined winter and spring terms at residential sites in England, France and Latin America.

Centre has a strong commitment to study abroad. Each year, more than 60 percent of Centre's graduates have had at least one study abroad experience.
