Centre students plan "pantry sweep" for charity DANVILLE, KY -- Centre College students will sponsor a Danville-Boyle County pantry sweep Tuesday, May 2, to collect canned food for a local charity. The students plan to solicit food donations door-to-door and at local grocery stores from 5-7 p.m. that day. All food will be donated to the food pantry at the Danville-Boyle County Salvation Army. Families who will not be home during the pantry sweep may leave canned goods on their porch for collection by the students. The food collection is part of annual Greek Week activities at Centre, and the student volunteers will be drawn from Centre fraternities and sororities. Centre sophomore Daron Mills of Louisville is coordinating the project. Mills also coordinated last year's event, which garnered more than 1,900 cans of food. - end -
