RELEASED: Dec. 5, 2000 DANVILLE, KY - Centre College students raised at least $400 in their recent overnight vigil in support of homeless people. Chris Lewis, a Centre senior from Cincinnati who is president of Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity, says the group has received $400 in donations and may net another $200 from outstanding pledges. The overnight vigil was held Saturday, Dec. 2, on the lawn of Old Centre and continued as planned in spite of the season's first major snowstorm. Students remained outdoors from 9 p.m. until 9 a.m. to encourage public understanding of living conditions for homeless persons. Participating students sought sponsors, and the resulting funds will go to the Alma McLeod Foundation. The outdoor vigil has become an annual service project of the APO chapter at Centre. - end -
