Two Centre seniors to keynote Honors Convocation DANVILLE, KY -- Nute Bonner of Lexington and Beth Owen of Norcross, Ga., have been chosen to speak on behalf of the Centre College senior class during the college's 2000 honors convocation. The convocation is set for Tuesday, May 9, at 7:30 p.m. in Newlin Hall in the college's Norton Center for the Arts. The public is invited to attend, and there is no admission charge. During the convocation, the college will announce student recipients of academic awards and honors for the year. Bonner and Owen were chosen as a result of faculty nominations, followed by a vote among members of the senior class. Bonner, who is a graduate of Dunbar High School, is majoring in international relations at Centre. He studied overseas with Centre's residential program in Strasbourg, France, and also completed a biology travel-study program on Sal Salvador Island. Bonner played one of the leading roles in Centre's winter drama production of "The Beauty Queen of Leenane." Owens is a graduate of Gulfport (Miss.) High School and is majoring in international relations. She has been active in community service, serving as core leader for student volunteers with the elderly. Owen also helped found the Centre Women's Forum, and she was president of the Order of Omega. Owen has been secretary of the Student Judiciary, and she was elected homecoming queen. She has earned campus honors including dean's list and election to Omicron Delta Kappa leadership group. - end -
