The concert: "Celebrate America at Centre College"
A Sparkling array of Kentucky talent and national celebrities

 

As host of the only vice presidential debate, Centre College has planned a special pre-debate program on October 5th on the College's lawn. "Celebrate America at Centre College" will offer on stage an eclectic mix of celebrity guests and Kentucky music groups in a five-hour performance, leading up to the debate at 9:00 p.m. Scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m., the concert will be produced by Centre College's Norton Center for the Arts. Persons attending the concert activities will also be able to view the complete debate on a large Panasonic Astrovision screen.

Featured Performers
Television personality Nick Clooney, master of ceremonies for the event, is a Kentucky native. He will be joined by other nationally known performers, including pianist Roger Williams, recording artist B.J. Thomas, gospel great Larnelle Harris and the Main Line Brass Band from Washington, DC. Kentucky groups performing in the concert will include the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra with conductor Nicholas Palmer, and from Danville, the Advocate Brass Band, the Danville Children's Choir, and the All-Male Chorus of the First Baptist Church. A highlight of the concert will be the premiere of the soon to be released video of B.J. Thomas's new song, "What's Forever For."

Location
The concert will be staged on the lawn in front of Old Centre, which is also the setting for the main stage of the annual Great American Brass Band Festival.

Admission
"Celebrate America at Centre College" is free and open to the public. Persons who wish to attend the concert activities may bring their own lawn chair or blanket for seating.

Restrictions:
The concert is on Centre College property and the following restrictions apply:

Picnic baskets, coolers and drink containers will not be allowed. Food and beverages will be available for purchase at the concert. Parking in the immediate area of the campus will be highly limited, and those attending the concert should be prepared to walk to the concert from areas where parking is available. Limited shuttle service will be available from the more remote designated parking areas.

Absolutely no alcohol or firearms will be allowed. Also, for security reasons, attendees will not be allowed to bring backpacks, fanny packs, large purses, or other covered containers. No glass beverage containers allowed. No signs on sticks will be allowed at the concert for safety reasons.

These restrictions will help create a festive and safe environment for all visitors, students and staff members.
