Fifty Students Win Debate Tickets

Danville, KY ­ October 4, 2000 ­ On the evening of October 3, 2000 Centre College President John Roush and Vice President for Student Life Nancy Lackey chose at random 50 students to attend the'Thrill in the'Ville." Four hundred fifty Centre College students registered their names in a lottery drawing for 50 available seats in the College's Newlin Hall for the Vice Presidential Debate, to be held October 5 at 9 p.m.

The drawing was held in the Combs Center ­ a renovated hemp warehouse ­ after the students watched the televised Boston debate between Vice President Al Gore and Governor George W. Bush. Over 400 students watched the debate in the student center and cheered for their respective parties.

During his introductory remarks, President Roush reaffirmed his enthusiasm for the democratic process. "Never take your choice to vote for granted," he said. The following Centre College students were chosen at random to attend this event. They are listed in the drawing order:
