College begins summer renovation, repair projects DANVILLE, KY - Centre College has launched a series of summer renovation and repair projects that include a new roof for the Cowan Dining Commons. The Cowan project is well underway, with completion expected by mid-August. Two of the most substantial summer projects focus on the Centre athletic department. In an effort to improve playing conditions for field hockey and softball, the college has irrigated and resurfaced the former intramural field on the west end of campus to become the varsity field for field hockey and softball. The former field hockey field, behind the Norton Center, will become the intramural field. A second athletic project focuses on the varsity soccer field. The college is building, on the west side of the field, a press box with a filming deck and a spacious seating area reserved for Centre parents, alumni and friends. On the field's east side, the college is expanding and improving bleacher seating for visitors. The construction is due for completion before the opening of the fall soccer season. The Centre Shoppes building on Main Street is being refurbished with interior paint, carpet and lighting. The shop remains open regular hours. In the Norton Center for the Arts, the college is renovating two dressing rooms in anticipation of the upcoming vice presidential debate. Other work at the Norton Center this summer includes painting and repairs to portions of the exterior walls. The remaining summer work projects focus on interior work in Olin Hall and in student residence halls. - end - Communications Office Public information coordinator: Patsi Barnes Trollinger |
