Centre students host program on sweatshop manufacturing

DANVILLE, KY - Centre College students will host a program by student activists from Duke University and the University of Kentucky who are part of a nationwide movement protesting sweatshop manufacturers. The Wednesday, March 22, program will be held in Young 101 at 7:30 p.m.

The program, which is entitled "Clean Clothes: Students United Against Sweatshops," will explain steps taken by students on other campuses to protest the purchase of school athletic attire produced by sweatshop manufacturers. The anti-sweatshop movement is one of the largest student activist movements on college campuses today and aims to eliminate inhumane working conditions in manufacturing facilities.

The event at Centre is sponsored by CentrePeace, a new activist group on campus.

The students on the panel have been active in the anti-sweatshop movement at their respective schools.
