DANVILLE, KY - Centre College swimmers set college records and a meet record at the recent finals of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. The meet was held at DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind., Feb. 17-19. D.H. McNabb, a Centre sophomore from Tampa, Fla., broke his own school record in the 500-yard freestyle, swimming to a time of 4:56.02 and earning a fifth-place finish. Danville native Kyle Poland, a sophomore, broke the school record in both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyles. He swam a time of 21.48 seconds in the 50 and gained a sixth-place finish. Poland set the record in the 100 as he led off the men's 400 freestyle relay; his time was 47.24 seconds. Blythe Ashcraft, a sophomore from Elizabethtown, set school records in four events and one conference meet record. She set school and meet records while securing a first-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:15.95. She also set school records in the 200-yard backstroke, the 100-yard freestyle and the 200-yard freestyle. In the backstroke, she swam a time of 2:14.74 and placed second. She swam lead-off in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 55.32. Finally, in the 200-yard freestyle she took second place with a time of 1:59.43.
