Centre track athletes set school records DANVILLE, KY - Centre College track athletes have set school records in five events in recent weeks. The college's 4x100m relay team set a school record with a time of 42.48 at the recent Centre Invitational Track Meet. The members of the team are Kevin Chapman (Louisville), Eric Heyman (Louisville), Brian Britt (Danville) and Travis Bell (Eminence). All four play on the football team and were lettermen last fall. Also during the Centre Invitational, Ilena Earl (Greenville, S.C.) set a school record in the women's pole vault with a leap of 7 feet, 6 inches. Brian Murphy (Louisville) set a record in the men's pole vault with a jump of 13 feet, 1 inch. Amanda McCracken (Fairfield, Ohio) set a record in the 3,000m run with a time of 10:51:00. Joe Guthrie (Campbellsburg) set a record in the 110m high hurdles with a time of 51.18. During the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships held in Memphis, Chapman also finished first in the 100m and 200m dash and Guthrie placed second in the 110m high hurdles and fifth in the 400m high hurdles. Guthrie plans to compete in an upcoming meet at Butler University in an attempt to quality for the national NCAA meet. In the final team standings at SCAC meet, the Centre men ranked fourth and the women ranked fifth. - end -
