RELEASED: Jan. 26, 2001 DANVILLE, KY-Centre College has honored Churchill Downs Incorporated (CDI) with the College's annual Associate of the Year award. Thomas H. Meeker, the Company's president and chief executive officer, accepted the award at a black tie dinner held in Louisville on Jan. 26 for Centre trustees and major donors, along with other friends of the College. CDI was tapped for the honor in recognition of its commitment to community service, leadership in the horse racing industry and success in strategic corporate management. As part of its community service program, CDI offered leadership and support to help Centre prepare for the October 2000 vice presidential debate. The firm donated staff time and expertise over the course of several months as the College dealt with issues ranging from media relations to special events. Centre President John Roush describes CDI's support of the debate as "enthusiastic, generous, and enormously helpful." While CDI has existed as a legal entity since early in the 20th century, the Company has changed dramatically in recent years. The Company now owns racetracks in Kentucky, Illinois, California and Florida and has interests in a pari-mutuel operation in Indiana as well as various racing services companies. In the last year, CDI won acclaim for its merger with Arlington Park, another of Thoroughbred racing's venerable tracks. The firm's highest commitments are to customer service, strong community relations and continuing investment in capital improvements. The Company's approach to expansion has established CDI as a model of strategic growth and modern corporate management. CDI is a publicly traded company, listed on the Nasdaq National Market. Centre announces the Associate of the Year each January. Past recipients have included
