Centre's Baker named women's soccer player of the week in SCAC

RELEASED: Oct. 17, 2001

DANVILLE, KY- Brianna Baker, a sophomore forward from Perrysburg, Ohio, was selected as the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Player-of-the-Week for her play in the Oct. 13 game with Sewanee. With Centre and Sewanee deadlocked in a scoreless tie after 76 minutes of play, Baker scored two goals in the final 14 minutes to give the Colonels a 2-0 victory. After a beautiful fake, Baker moved past the Sewanee goalkeeper to score from 10 yards out. Later, she scored on a tip-in for an insurance goal, and the Colonels claimed sole possession of second place in the conference standings.

Coach Gina Nicoletti is extremely proud of Baker. "She really came up big in a big game. Her first goal was just outstanding – a thing of beauty. Brianna works hard and is deserving of this honor."

The Lady Colonels are currently 4-1-2 in the SCAC standings and 8-4-2 overall.
