DANVILLE, KY — Centre College has made an unusual promise to its students: meet your normal academic and social obligations and you will graduate in four years, you will get a chance to study abroad, and you will be able to do an internship – or Centre will pay your tuition for up to an extra year of study.
According to Dean of Admission Carey Thompson, the pledge, called "The Centre Commitment," simply makes explicit options that have been available to Centre students for many years.
"Internships have long been widely accessible at Centre, and we are tied for 10th in the nation in the percentage of our students who study abroad," he said. "Our four-year graduation rate of 78 percent for the most recent year, compares very favorably to the average of Kentucky's six largest public universities, which is 40.5 percent."
The terms of the Centre Commitment will apply to current high school seniors who will enter the College in the fall of 2002.
