Centre College sets dedication for Habitat House

RELEASED: April 18, 2001

DANVILLE, KY - Dedication ceremonies are set for 11:45 a.m., Thursday, April 19, for a Habitat for Humanity house in Danville. It's billed as "The House the Veeps Built" as it was the first Vice Presidential debate-related campus event at Centre College this past fall.

The house is a joint project of Centre College campus and community chapters of Habitat for Humanity. Groundbreaking took place Oct. 5, when Hadassah Lieberman, wife of then-Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Lieberman, some of Vice President Dick Cheney's family members, and many others attended.

The ceremony will include readings, prayers of dedication, presentation of two construction awards, presentation of a Bible and house keys to the homeowner family.

Participants will include John Roush, Centre College president; Carol Peterson, Vice President of Federal Home Loan Bank of Cincinnati; Lynn Luallen, CEO of the Kentucky Housing Corporation; Bill Simpson, vice president of the Boyle County Affiliate of Habitat for Humanity and Project Construction Supervisor; and many other campus and community leaders who were involved in the project.

The house is located at 312 North Sixth Street in Danville, within four blocks of the Centre campus.

Centre College students secured grants totaling $32,000 to cover much of the construction costs. Work crews began work on the house last August.
