RELEASED: May 31, 2001

DANVILLE, KY—Seven employees of Centre College were recognized with service awards during the school's annual employee appreciation dinner Tuesday, May 29. They were (pictured from left to right) Milena Nedic, Dianna Taylor, Don Good, Gary Bugg, Kevin Milby, Wayne King, and Ann King.

In addition, the college recognized employees who are retiring and individuals who have reached milestones of service to the college, ranging from five to 35 years.

Taylor, Good and Nedic received Horky Service Awards, which were created by a bequest from John and Lorette Horky of Danville to honor unique and exemplary service to Centre. Milby, Bugg and Ann King were honored with Centre Recognition Awards, which salute persons who have given unselfish service to the college community. Wayne King received the Presidential Award for Excellence, honoring exceptional work during the past year.

Taylor, a member of the physical plant staff who also assists in the Student Health Center with projects, has been at Centre for more than a year. She is a native of Lexington and attended Bryan Station High School. Good is a supervisor for the grounds crew. The Danville native has been at the school for a year, and with the assistance from others in his work group, has transformed the appearance of the campus. Nedic, a native of Bosnia, has also been with the school for a year. Nedic, who works in the custodial group, is credited with carefully evaluating the needs of her assigned areas. She works in multiple areas and demonstrates equal concern for performing her tasks in a quality manner.

Milby, a native of Greensburg who attended Green County High School, joined the College in 1996 as associate director of public safety. Bugg, a graduate of Danville High School and a 1993 graduate of Centre, has worked at the school for 14 years. He was named associate director of public safety in 1996. Milby and Bugg were touted for their professional manner and pleasantness. They can be counted on to deliver organization and a sense of humor. Ann King, a Danville High School graduate, joined Centre five years ago. She is the post office supervisor. King assumed responsibility of the post office when Penny Glass, a 20-year employee of Centre College, passed away after an illness. King effectively met the demands of this challenging position.

Wayne King has been with Centre since 1973 and is a native of Danville. He is the assistant director of maintenance. He is a fixture on the Centre campus and probably has more historical knowledge about the facilities than anyone. When a crisis occurs, he can be found on campus at all times of the day or night. King is also known to tackle any task, big or small.

The college recognized three faculty members who are retiring this year: Professor of French Charles Vahlkamp, who has taught at Centre since 1967; Professor of Economics Charles Campbell, who has taught at Centre since 1968; and Professor of Music Robert Weaver, who began teaching at Centre in 1972.

Other staff members who have retired in the past year recognized were: Alfred McCormick, Dora Yocum, Lil Rogers and Helen Lewis.
