DANVILLE, KYSunny Y. Lu, a practitioner of the Chinese spiritual movement Falun Gong, will discuss the persecution of Falun Gong followers in China at a Centre College convocation on Wednesday, Jan. 24, at 8 p.m. in the Crounse Bijou (lower level, enter side door of Crounse). The convocation is free, and the public is invited to attend. Falun Gong is a self-cultivation system designed to improve the mind and body through exercises called Chi Gong and meditation. After 10,000 adherents assembled in Beijing for a peaceful demonstration two years ago, the Chinese government began a systematic campaign of harassment against Falun Gong followers. Lu is a faculty member in the University of Cincinnati medical school and holds both an M.D. and a Ph.D. in psychiatry. During the convocation, she will present a short video on Falun Gong, demonstrate some of the Chi Gong movements, and discuss the reasons the Chinese government views Falun Gong as a threat. -end- Photo by Corey Dugan
