John Conlee nominated for Best Featured Actor in a Musical
DANVILLE, KYGraduation ceremonies won't be the only exciting event taking place for the Centre community June 3. That evening Centre graduate John Ellison Conlee will take part in the Tony Awards at Radio City Music Hall in New York as he is a nominee for Best Featured Actor in a Musical.
Conlee, a 1990 graduate of Centre, is recognized for his role in the Broadway Show "The Full Monty," based on the 1997 comedic movie about unemployed British steelworkers stripping for cash. Conlee plays Dave Bukatinsky , an overweight steel worker who is eventually convinced to bare it all following a hilarious chain of events.
"The Full Monty" has received 10 Tony nominations. The 32-year-old Conlee, a native of Atlanta, was thrilled.
"I'm so happy for everyone," he said. "It's exciting to have all these people I work with be nominated, and it is exciting for me to be nominated. It's all good stuff!"
As a dramatic actor, Conlee has performed in several plays for the New York Shakespeare Festival. He appeared in numerous productions during his days at Centre, including "What the Butler Saw" and "Birthday Party."
The 55th annual Tony Awards will be hosted by Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane. Presenters will include Glenn Close, Edie Falco and Sigourney Weaver. The show will air live on CBS and PBS at 9 p.m.
