College Democrats of Kentucky

RELEASED: April 24, 2001

DANVILLE, KY—Kent Barnett, a Centre College junior, was elected as state secretary for the College Democrats of Kentucky. The election was held April 21 at the University of Kentucky.

The College Democrats organization strives to get students involved in the political process and promote democratic ideology on campuses. In addition, the state chapter seeks to strengthen local chapters by providing morale, energy, ideas, and leadership when working with state and national campaigns.

As state secretary, Barnett will be responsible for reporting the minutes to all local chapters, helping with relations between the state, national and college chapters and gathering college chapters' concerns and ideas. He will serve a one-year term.

Seven schools, including Centre, were represented at the elections. Gov. Paul Patton, Lt. Gov. Steve Henry, and several other state representatives spoke.

Kentucky's highest ranked national institution, Centre is listed by U.S. News and World Report among the country's top 50 national liberal arts colleges. Centre leads all colleges and universities in the percentage of alumni who give annual financial support.
