Centre staff member wins national award

Jason Scott Embry named fraternity’s National Chapter Advisor of the Year

RELEASED: July 25, 2001

DANVILLE, KY—Jason Scott Embry, associate director of development for annual giving at Centre College, has been recognized as the National Chapter Advisor of the Year for Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.

Embry, SAE chapter advisor at Centre since 1998, was chosen over more than 200 SAE advisors nationwide.

A graduate of Western Kentucky University (Class of 1994), Embry was an SAE in Bowling Green. He has many duties as chapter advisor such as: ritual guidance, coordinating service projects, leading an annual goals meeting, advising in fraternal affairs, advising new officers each year and serving as a link between fraternity and the national chapter and also as a buffer between the chapter and alumni.

More than anything else, Embry enjoys getting to know the fraternity members through his work.

"It's all about personal relationships," he said. "That's a lot of fun for me. Being chapter advisor enables me to interact with students on a much more personal level.

"I'm honored, but the SAE chapter at Centre has some strong leaders. It's just as much their award, and probably more so, as mine. They really rose to the occasion in being a strong chapter."

Josh Moore, a 2001 Centre graduate who served as the Chapter Awards Chair for SAE last year, said Embry consistently goes beyond the call of duty as chapter advisor.

"I'm really happy for Jason," he said. "He definitely deserved the award. Not only is he a great advisor, he is a great brother who we all admire and respect. He can always be counted on to help in numerous ways, and is always there as a friend."

Aside from this recognition, Embry has also been chosen to serve as a faculty member at national chapter's 66th Leadership School later this month in Chicago in which 600 SAE undergraduate members will attend. Thirty-five SAE alumni are faculty members for the annual event. Becoming a faculty member is quite a distinction because there is little turnover of faculty members through the years.

The National Awards Banquet for SAE will also take place during this time in Chicago. Centre's SAE chapter will look to win the SAE Chapter Achievement Award from the Kentucky Kappa Chapter for the 18th year in a row.
