DANVILLE, KY— Stacy Smith, a recent graduate of Centre College had an article published in Molecular and Cellular Endocrinology as a result of her research at the University of Louisville.

Under the direction of Dr. Carolyn Klinge, Smith participated in the Summer Research Opportunity Program (SROP) at U of L. Her research investigated a conformational change in a protein, estrogen receptor alpha, upon binding to a specific sequence of DNA, an estrogen response element. The article is entitled "Estrogen response element sequence impacts the conformation and transcriptional activity of estrogen receptor a."

Smith gained valuable research experience in lab techniques that are frequently used in the biochemistry field and it also prepared her for coursework at Centre during her junior and senior years.

Smith received her bachelor's degree in biochemistry and molecular biology with a minor in biology. She plans to attend pharmacy school at the University of Kentucky.

While at Centre she was a member of the field hockey team where she served as the co-captain her senior year and a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.

She is the daughter of Lawrence and Marolyn Smith of Louisville and a graduate of Eastern High School.

Kentucky's highest ranked national institution, Centre is listed by U.S. News and World Report among the country's top 50 national liberal arts colleges. Centre leads all colleges and universities in the percentage of alumni who give annual financial support.
