Centre students completing student teaching
at area schools

DANVILLE, KY - Ashley Abel, Bethany Deckard, Shane Hartley, Julie Hewett and Brian Sawyers are currently completing a term of student teaching under the auspices of the education program at Centre College. During this experience, they have the opportunity to prepare lesson plans, assist with special classroom activities and serve as lead teacher.
Abel and Sawyers are both teaching at Woodlawn Elementary School. Abel is teaching P1 and P2 under supervising teacher, Jeannie MacShara. Sawyers is teaching P3 and P4 under Kathy Ponsoll.
Deckard, Hartley and Hewett are all teaching at Boyle County High School. Deckard is teaching English under Katie Tiller, Hartley is teaching math under Susan Wysong and Hewett is teaching social studies under Joan Mann.
Centre offers the most successful teacher preparation program in the state of Kentucky. During the past decade, 99 percent of Centre's teaching graduates have passed the PRAXIS/ National Teachers Examination. Besides emphasizing knowledge of subject content, the program focuses on the fundamentals of good teaching and classroom management as well as new teaching innovations such as the use of technology in the classrooms. Faculty members in the program are Sam Fee, Bradley Nystrom and Donna Plummer.
