Student center receives face lift
RELEASED: September 26, 2001
DANVILLE, KY Students at Centre College may have wondered if they stumbled into the wrong building when visiting the Combs Student Center this semester. The student center, often referred to as the "Warehouse," was extensively renovated this summer.
There are more food offerings and Internet-connected computers than in year's past at the Centre Grille, located on the second floor of the building.
There are more salads, sandwiches and breakfast items to choose from. The combination meals (an entrée, side item and drink) have been the most popular new additions thus far.
The Combs Center was converted from a turn-of-the-century hemp warehouse into one of the most distinctive student centers in the country. Part of a historic district listed in National Register of Historic Places, the Combs Student Center is a three-story, 16,000 square foot structure.
The building features natural lighting, an open three-story staircase, and exposed interior brick. The first floor has a main stage area for bands and dances, while the second floor contains the grill and eating area, as well as televisions, video games, a pinball machine, and two pool tables. The third floor has office, work, and meeting space for student organizations.
