Student production of "A Funny Thing Happened
on the Way to the Forum" coming to Norton Center
RELEASED: January 16, 2002
DANVILLE, KY-More than 30 Centre College students are doing everything from the lighting, to set building to singing in the DramaCenter performance "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum." The all-student production will take place at Weisiger Theatre Jan. 24 at 8 p.m. and Jan. 26 at 8 p.m.
The musical is led by Centre seniors Wes and Les Fugate as part of their CentreTerm course. The Fugates self-designed the course as part of the new CentreTerm, an innovative three-week winter session.
"It's a unique experience," said Les Fugate. "There's a lot to do. Working on the budget, building sets, making costumes. But everyone is becoming a team. Everyone is finding ways to help out. It's neat to see the camaraderie."
The Fugates, of Prestonsburg, first saw "A Funny Thing" at Jenny Wiley Theatre in Prestonsburg while in high school.
"We fell in love with it," Les Fugate said. "It's a musical comedy, so it's giving us something different to work on."
It will be the first time that a computerized program called "OrchExtra" will be used during a performance of "A Funny Thing." The program enhances the sound of the musical instruments during the show.
