Gay, Nicoletti named assistant athletic directors

DANVILLE, KY-Jamey Gay and Gina Nicoletti have been named assistant athletic directors at Centre College. Gay will work in the area of student services, which will include fitness, recreation and intramurals while Nicoletti will work directly with new Athletic Director Brian Chafin.

Nicoletti will continue her position as head women's soccer coach and Gay

will continue as the head trainer for Centre athletics.

In 1992 Nicoletti was hired as the head women's soccer and tennis coach. In her nine years at the helm of the soccer program, Nicoletti has compiled a record of 89-73-9. She has led the Colonels to five top-10 Region rankings, has had 13 All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference players, and four All-Region players. In 1999, upon the retirement of Kitty Baird, Nicoletti was promoted to the position of Senior Woman Administrator and was relieved of her tennis coaching duties.

Prior to her arrival at Centre, Nicoletti was the assistant soccer coach at Ithaca College (N.Y.) and at Elon College (N.C.) where she is a former

All-American player. She holds a B.S. degree in Physical Education from Elon and a M.S. degree in Exercise Science from Ithaca.

In addition to her head coaching responsibilities, Nicoletti's duties include: Director of Girls and Women in Sports Day, coordinator of athletic awards and honors, administrator for the Dance and Cheerleading teams, Chair of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, instructor in the Health and Human Performance Program, and Director of the Centre College Girls Soccer Camp.

"I have worked with Gina for 10 years and in that time she has displayed an organized, hard working attitude. Gina is very loyal to Centre and our athletic department. I will count on Gina heavily as we move forward in Centre athletics."
Gay began his career at Centre College in 1988 as the assistant athletic trainer and equipment manager and also served as the assistant sports information director. In 1991 he became the head athletic trainer with the responsibility for providing injury prevention, treatment and rehabilitative services for all Centre student athletes. In 1995 Gay left Centre College to assist Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in the development of McDowell Center. He served as the program director of McDowell Wellness Center until 1999. His responsibilities included the development and implementation of fitness and wellness programs for the entire age spectrum. In 1999 he returned to Centre College as head athletic trainer.

Since 1999 Gay has served the community as a member of the Danville City Commission. He also served as the director of medical services for the Bluegrass State Games.

Gay received his bachelor's degree from the University of Kentucky in health and physical education and his master's degree from the University of Virginia in athletic training.
