Green and Mooney named first-team All-Conference

DANVILLE, KY-Seniors Sarah Green and Matt Mooney have been named to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference all-conference first team for their basketball prowess.

Making the second team was Doug Donaldson and honorable mention went to Amy Barlow, Beth Johnson and Jennifer Patterson.

Green had an outstanding year for the Lady Colonels leading the team in scoring (14.5 ppg) and rebounding (8.8 rpg) for the second straight year. Green recorded nine double-doubles for the season while shooting 51.5 percent from the floor and 75.9 percent from the free-throw line. She finished her career as the fourth all-time leading scorer for the Lady Colonels with 1,252 points. Centre placed second in the conference with a 14-4 record and 17-8 overall.

Mooney, a 6-foot, 175-pound guard, led the Colonels in scoring with a 16.5 average, good enough for fifth in the conference. The steady senior broke the conference record for the most treys in a season with 95. Mooney shot an incredible 44.4 percent from the three-point range and 91.8 percent from the foul line (45 of 49). Mooney finished his career with 1,002 points – 21st place in the Centre all-time record book.

Donaldson, a 6-5, 225-pound senior post player, made the second team by finishing the season with a 13.0 ppg average while hitting 42.3 percent from the field and 82.4 percent from the foul line. Donaldson was second on the team in scoring and rebounding (5.5 rpg). The Colonels finished the season at16-9 overall and 10-8 in the conference.

Honorable mention players were Barlow (8.8 points per game and 5.4 assists per game) Patterson (12.0 points per game) and Johnson (9.8 points per game).

In softball action, Centre softball pitcher Erin Grumley was named pitcher of the week in the SCAC for her performance in last week’s games. Grumley, a freshman, pitched in four games going 2-1 with a save as the Lady Colonels improved to 4-2 on the season.
