Brass Band Festival breaks attendance record

RELEASED: June 20, 2002

DANVILLE, KY-The 13th annual Great American Brass Band Festival held this past weekend at Centre College outdid itself once again by drawing its largest crowd ever. Attendance was believed to have totaled around 52,000 people for the three-day event according to festival organizers.

That broke the record from 2001 when between 42,500 and 46,500 people were in attendance.

Good weather was again a contributor to the strong turnout. But festival founder and organizer George Foreman, director of Centre's Norton Center for the Arts, said the record showing also was a product of an outstanding lineup and the post-September 11th patriotic theme to this year's festival.

The festival included 19 bands from throughout the world. The Great American Brass Band Festival began in 1990.
