New program hopes to cure "senioritis"

RELEASED: March 7, 2002

DANVILLE, KY-This is the time of year when what some call "senioritis" starts setting in with soon-to-be college graduates throughout the country. The symptoms some seniors show is anxiousness about job prospects, graduate school plans, moving and living alone and other things related to post-college life.

Centre College has developed a new program, Beyond Centre, which aims to address and alleviate these concerns.

During this series, students will hear Centre alumni and staff discuss the issues soon to be faced after graduation.

"It's been nice to hear past graduates reflect on the excitement, yet uncertainty, they also faced throughout their senior year," said senior Liza Turner, a senior from Burkesville, Ky. "However, it seems that even though the speakers questioned the exact nature of their post-graduate paths, they never questioned the level of preparation that four years at Centre had given them. So, despite the fact that the helpful hints on job searching, money management and graduate school admission have been useful, I believe the most beneficial information that I've taken from Beyond Centre is the simple reassurance that we—even sometimes confused and seemingly unprepared seniors—are in fact prepared for any job or graduate school that we choose to pursue."

The next seminar is March 13. Money management, investment and insurance issues will be discussed.
