Burch named new men’s soccer coach

RELEASED: Feb. 21, 2002

DANVILLE, KY-Jeb Burch has been named the new head men's soccer coach at Centre College replacing Brian Chafin. Chafin will become Centre's new athletic director this summer.

Burch, a Lexington native formerly of Lexington Catholic High School, had been Centre's assistant coach since 1994 and is a Centre graduate. He is currently working toward a master's degree in sports administration.

Burch has outstanding credentials, twice being named regional All-American and a two-time all-conference goalkeeper. He lettered four years for the Colonels and was captain of the team for two years. Burch holds the school record for shutouts and goals against average. He has come full circle to the head coaching position.

"It's going to be fun coaching against teams that recruited me and teams I've played against. It will be great to follow a legacy like Brian Chafin's. These are big shoes to fill because of Brian's dedication to his players. We have that feature in common, and I feel I can move Centre's program forward from here. Starting my head coaching career at my alma mater and in the SCAC is a tremendous honor."

Burch is also excited about having plenty of experience coming back from last year's 9-6-2 team.

"I anticipate a great fall with several good players in the program already. Also, it's a thrill to recruit my first class, which is turning out to be a good one. I'll be disappointed if we're not conference contenders. Lastly, I really feel good about Centre and its nationally recognized academic program and what we can promise our incoming freshmen. The potential growth of our facilities is tremendous. I love Centre and what it stands for."

Centre is a Division III member of the NCAA and has an enrollment of 1,027.
