Classes get underway on Sept. 2

Freshman class first to be promised "Centre Commitment"

RELEASED: Aug. 29, 2002

DANVILLE, KY—The 2002-03 academic year at Centre College begins Monday, Sept. 2.

Centre's yearly calendar is based on a 4-1-4 pattern. Typically, students take four courses in the 13-week fall and spring terms and one course in the winter session, also known as CentreTerm.

CentreTerm begins Monday, Jan. 6, and the spring term kicks off Wednesday, Feb. 5.

The incoming freshman class will be the first to attend Centre with a unique promise from the College: Students who meet normal academic and social obligations will graduate in four years, get a chance to study abroad, and be able to do an internship—or Centre will pay the student's tuition for up to an extra year of study.

According to Dean of Admission Carey Thompson, the pledge, called "The Centre Commitment," simply makes explicit options that have been available to Centre students for many years.

The terms of the Centre Commitment will apply to the Class of 2006 and all classes thereafter.

For more information on the Centre Commitment, contact the Admission Office at (800) 423-6236 or e-mail admission@centre.edu. You can also visit http://www.centre.edu/web/prospective.htm.
