Fantastic Four: female athletes honored

DANVILLE, KY—As the first wave of honors roll in for fall sports, four female athletes at Centre College have been recognized for their outstanding achievements.

Liz Lowe and Gina Preston were named to he National Field Hockey Coaches Association Div. III second team all-region squad. Lauren Arnold and Stephanie Beem were selected to the all-region women's cross-country team.

Lowe, a junior goalkeeper from Louisville, and Preston, a junior defender from Louisville, each had standout seasons.

Lowe started 15 games as goalie and had eight shutouts. She gave up only 13 goals on the season. Preston had two goals on the season—both game-winners—as she started 17 of the Lady Colonels' 18 games.

The field hockey team ended the season with a 10-8 record and finished second in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Arnold and Beem were named all-region after their performances at the regional competition in Fredericksburg, Va. They each finished in the top 25 of the 5K race which had more than 164 runners. Arnold, a freshman from Lexington, Ky., was 20th while Beem, a senior from LaPorte, Ind., finished 22nd.

The duo helped Centre to a sixth-place finish out of 27 teams at the regional.
