Homecoming to feature new events

DANVILLE, KY—Centre's Homecoming will be more fun-packed than ever with some new twists in 2002. The celebration takes place Oct. 25-26.

This year the Alumni Recognition Ceremony will be Oct. 26 from 11 a.m. to noon in Weisiger Theatre at Centre's Norton Center for the Arts.

All alumni are invited to honor these outstanding individuals. Honorees are:

Teresa Daniel '79, Distinguished Alumnus Award; David Morgan '75, Distinguished Alumnus Award; Philip Taliaferro III, '59, Distinguished Alumnus Award; Geoffrey Paul Buhlig '89, Young Alumnus Award; Mary Swain Wood, Honorary Alumnus Award; Susan Yates Ely, '90, Athletic Hall of Fame; John Gohmann '89, Athletic Hall of Fame; Danny Johnson, '89, Athletic Hall of Fame; Joe McDaniel, Athletic Hall of Fame; and Tim McDaniel '92, Athletic Hall of Fame.

Following the recognition ceremony, CentreFest!, a family-style picnic, will be held on the lawn of the Cowan Dining Commons. Music will be provided by Danville-based band Billyblues.

The weekend will kick off Oct. 25 with a reception for alumni 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. at Chenault Alumni House. Alumni are also encouraged to attend an art exhibit featuring paintings by Thuan Vu '95 at the Jones Visual Art Center. The exhibit (http://www.centre.edu/web/news/vu02.html) will be open each day.

"The Presidents" featuring comedian Rich Little will be held at Newlin Hall of the Norton Center at 8:30 Friday night.

Events begin at 8 on Saturday morning with the Homecoming 5K.

There are several events and activities to choose from Saturday afternoon. The men's and women's soccer teams host Illinois Wesleyan, there will be Greek Open Houses, and the football team hosts conference rival Trinity at 2:30 p.m. The king and queen will be named at halftime of the football contest.

The weekend concludes with a dinner/dance at the Danville Country Club from 7 p.m. to midnight.
