President Roush receives invitation from Uncle Sam

DANVILLE, KYJohn Roush, president of Centre College, has accepted an invitation from Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld to participate in the Defense Department's Educators and Defense conference.
This week participants are learning about U.S. military personnel, their equipment and capabilities and national defense strategies.
As a guest of the Secretary of Defense, Roush will visit military bases of the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps.
Participants will fly on military aircraft; visit crews working aboard an aircraft carrier; and observe amphibious landings, urban area combat techniques and training.
The program began in Washington, D.C., on Monday, where Roush met and was briefed by Defense Department leaders including Rumsfeld, Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman General Richard B. Myers and other senior military and civilian officials.
Participants traveled to several different military sites and met with enlisted men and women while observing them in the performance of their duties.
The conference is part of the Secretary of Defense's premier civic leader program known as the Joint Civilian Orientation Conference.
It was initiated in 1948 and has introduced thousands of community leaders to the Department of Defense.
