Princeton, and Amherst

College in the company of Harvard, Princeton, Stanford, and Yale

RELEASED: July 3, 2002

DANVILLE, KY-Centre College is named one of the "320 Most Interesting Colleges" by Kaplan, Inc., in its new publication, "The Unofficial, Unbiased Guide to the 320 Most Interesting Colleges," and also lists Centre as a school of "Highest Academic Standards."

Other schools that were given the "Highest Academic Standards" distinction included Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford and Amherst.

The book, which is hitting bookstores this week, has a two-page profile on the school, calling Centre "the pride of Kentucky." The authors of the book are Trent Anderson and Seppy Basili.

The authors point out that in the 2001 National Survey of Student Engagement Centre was ranked No. 1 in the country for the category of supportive campus environment for first-year students at a national liberal arts institution (see www.centre.edu/web/news/nsse2001.html).

The guide goes on to state: "The top Kentucky high school freshmen are drawn here; the test scores of incoming freshmen are higher than those of any other school in the state."

Anderson writes: "Centre's academics, and its academic flexibility, make it the premier liberal arts institution in Kentucky."

The new guide is based on Kaplan's 2002 National Survey of High School Guidance Counselors. The random survey consisted of telephone interviews with counselors at public and private high schools across the country. According to Kaplan, the book provides straightforward, unbiased information that helps prospective applicants make the most informed choice possible during the application process.

The $20 book can be purchased by contacting the Centre Shoppes Bookstore at (859) 238-5370.
