RELEASED: April 25, 2002

DANVILLE, KY-In less than four hours, Carrie Lear did something that many hard-core runners dream of but never accomplish —finishing the Boston Marathon.

Lear completed the 106th running of the Boston Marathon in 3:44.50. The 26.2-mile marathon took place on April 15.

Lear qualified for the famous race when she ran in the Flying Pigs Marathon held last year in Cincinnati. She ran with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team in Training to raise money for a child with cancer.

Lear, a senior, attended Henry Clay High School in Lexington.

Centre students Derrick Pierce and Nate Woodall will run in their first marathons this weekend. They will participate in the Country Music Marathon, held in Nashville on Saturday.

Pierce is a senior from Nicholasville. He attended Hopkinsville High School. Woodall, from Cadiz, attended Trigg County High School.
