“On Center at Centre” to help artists
through workshops, demonstrations

RELEASED: Aug. 1, 2002

DANVILLE, KY—A weekend of workshops and demonstrations to help craftspeople and artists will be held Aug. 9-10 at Centre College.

"On Center at Centre," sponsored by the Kentucky Art and Craft Foundation and the Kentucky Craft Marketing Program, will feature hands-on instruction and demonstrations led by regionally and nationally known craft artists.

Workshops for all skill levels will include the following areas: polymer clay, glass, clay, wood and fiber.

The highlight of the weekend will be the seventh-annual Rude Osolnik Award dinner Friday evening at Centre's Carnegie Club. The award will honor a Kentucky craftsperson for outstanding contributions to the Kentucky craft community. A special tribute will be paid to Osolnik, who died in April. Osolnik was a woodturner who taught at Berea College and founded the furniture-making program there.

Stephen Rolfe Powell, internationally known artist and professor of art at Centre, is a past winner of the Osolnik Award. Powell will present a glassblowing demonstration on Friday evening.
