Nationally acclaimed poet coming to campus

DANVILLE, KY-Acclaimed poet Larissa Szporluk will be reading from her works at Centre College's Norton Center for the Arts on Thursday, March 7 at 7 p.m.

Szporluk, whose first full-length collection, Dark Sky Question, won the 1997 Barnard New Women Poets Prize, will be at the Norton Center Board Meeting Room.

Szporluk's second book, Isolato(2000), won the Iowa Prize. Her poems have been published in the Best American Poetry anthologies for 1999 and 2001, and she has published poems in more than 150 magazines such as Boston Review, Parnassus, Washington Post, Ploughshares, Harvard Review, Grand Street, Boston Book Review, and Kenyon Review. Szporluk has received a Rona Jaffe Writer's Award, an International Poetry Award (Yeats Society), an Academy of American Poets Prize, a Henry Hoyns Fellowship, among many other awards.

Of Szporluk's work, the Boston Reviewnoted, "This compelling new voice illuminates an injured, absurd world that is nevertheless inhabited by loveliness and divinity … a debut of remarkable philosophical coherence and lyric energy."

She currently serves as Assistant Professor and Acting Director of the Creative Writing Program at Bowling Green State University.
