| Two athletes honored by SCAC

DANVILLE, KYCentre College had not one but two student-athletes honored recently as Players of the Week by the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
The Colonels' Brian Behrendt, a 6-foot-1, 180-pound sophomore from Paducah, Ky., was named SCAC Player of the Week for his play in last Saturday's 38-15 football win against Kenyon College.
Behrendt completed 23 of 35 passes for 316 yards and four touchdowns.
"I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous," Behrendt said. "I was a little nervous at first, but once I got a few series under my belt I felt loose on the field."
Leah Ballinger, a sophomore setter from Butler, Ky., was named the SCAC's Volleyball Player of the Week for matches played Sept. 2-7.
Ballinger was selected to the Averett (Va.) University Cougar Invitational all-tournament team after leading the Colonels to a 3-1 mark. She set a personal milestone in the process, scoring her first career triple-double in the victory over preseason No. 19 Catholic University. In the match, Ballinger tallied 10 kills, 43 assists and 20 digs to lead the Colonels to the 3-1 upset win. In the 3-0 victory over Roanoke (Va.) College, she had 41 assists (13.6 per game).
For the weekend, Ballinger averaged 10.1 assists, 1.9 kills and .92 blocks per game while hitting a league-leading .524 (25 kills, 3 errors, 42 total attacks).
The Colonels hold a 5-3 record. Their next match will be at home vs. Hollins and Averett on Saturday starting at 11:30 a.m.
