| Princeton Review selects Centre for Best Colleges guide
Fifth straight year the College has been listed in publication
RELEASED: Aug. 29, 2002
DANVILLE, KYThe Princeton Review, a college guidebook, has once again selected Centre College as one of the top colleges in the country. This is the fifth straight year the Princeton Review has recognized the College.
Centre is listed along with schools such as Harvard, Princeton, Yale and Swarthmore.
Rankings for The Best 345 Colleges: 2003 Edition are based on surveys of more than 100,000 students at the 345 colleges in the book (about 300 students per campus) during the past three academic years. Students were asked 70 questions about their own school's academics, campus life, and student body, as well as their study hours, politics and opinions.
Centre's faculty and campus atmosphere received high marks in the guidebook.
Explains one undergraduate in the book, "People here are committed to our undergraduate studies. They are eager for us to succeed, so they make themselves available to us all of the time. They even give us their home telephone numbers and invite us to their homes for Christmas parties and stuff." Reports another student, "Skipping a class here will result in a phone call or e-mail by your prof just to make sure everything is okay. They are genuinely concerned with your progress as a student."
Students also praised the campus community. One wrote, "[Students at Centre] are cultured, but not snobby. It's a nice mix between southern hospitality and northern academics. [Nearly all] have high standards and strong work ethics. They know how to study hard during the week, as well as have a great time on the weekends."
