| Renovation, repair projects taking place
RELEASED: June 12, 2002
DANVILLE, KY-A series of summer renovation and repair projects are underway at Centre College. Most of these projects began at the end of the spring term and are to be completed before students return for classes in the fall.
The projects include the following:
Significant improvements are planned for Nevin Residence Hall. The main entrance will be enhanced. Bathrooms in the freshman men's residence hall will receive an upgrade, and ventilation will be improved. On each floor, new ceilings, lighting, floor covering and doors will be installed.
The Walnut House student housing will get new windows, new paint, ceiling tile replacements, some bathroom upgrades, new rear stairs and a new front door.
Alumni Gym at Sutcliffe Athletic Center is targeted for new lighting, new stands, new backboards, a refinished floor and other improvements.
The long-term project to rebuild all campus sidewalks will begin this summer. The objective is to replace all of the asphalt sidewalks with new construction using concrete and brick. Although this project may not be completed for a number of years, it will make a significant difference in the appearance of the campus and there should be noticeable progress each year.
A new air-conditioning system will be installed for Crounse faculty offices.
To continue the upgrading of Centre's technology system and service, almost a quarter of a million dollars will be invested in various ways over the course of the summer and the next fiscal year.
In addition, a considerable amount of painting, carpeting and furniture replacement will take place throughout campus.
All of this activity represents a considerable investment of college funds, but the results will continue to maintain and improve Centre's facilities in a way that will provide a better learning environment.
